Javier García González gets a 10 in his Final Degree Project with the tool ‘ApkAudit’

Last June, Javier García González defended his Final Degree Project in Computer Engineering at the School of Computer Engineering of the University of Valladolid and obtained a grade of 10.

His project, entitled ‘ApkAudit: App to audit an Android app using the App-PIMD repository’, is part of the research lines of the Privacy Engineering Group (IngPriv), and has been tutored by Mercedes Martínez and Alejandro Pérez de la Fuente.

The application developed by Javier aims to audit mobile apps with respect to privacy and security compliance. To do so, ApkAudit combines several advanced functionalities, including:

  • Analysis of the permissions requested by the application.
  • Detection of trackers and possible malware, thanks to integration with VirusTotal.
  • Extraction and analysis of personal data collected in the privacy policy.
  • ✅ Comparison of this information with the data security section of Google Play, using natural language processing (NLP) techniques.

This work constitutes a major contribution to the development of accessible and useful PET (Privacy-Enhancing Technologies) tools for both users and developers, and builds on the App-PIMD repository, previously developed in the research group.

From IngPriv and the School we would like to congratulate Javier for his excellent work and wish him every success in the new challenges he undertakes. Congratulations!
